Corporate History

When it was first formed in 1980, SOMOS specialized in technical development, consulting, and marketing for high technology product development companies. In 1991, we reestablished SOMOS Consulting Group as a project management consulting firm to high technology companies and federal government organizations. We created a network with other best-in-class Project Managers and broadened our services to address the growing demand in information technology and for higher quality project professionals.

Since then, SOMOS has continued to grow steadily and is now a dynamic management consulting and training company located in Toronto and Ottawa, Canada. With both Canadian and international consulting experience, we have planned and delivered hundreds of major projects in the information technology, product development, energy, telecommunications, software development, life sciences, and government sectors. With its professional management, business, and software development consultants, SOMOS is uniquely positioned to serve a wide variety of organizations and needs by providing a diverse range of services.

SOMOS delivered its first project management training course based on the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBoK) in 1996. Since then, we have expanded our training program to include over a dozen PMBoK-based courses. In 2007, SOMOS became the first consulting company in Canada to offer PRINCE2® training (Projects In Controlled Environments).

Since 1991, SOMOS has implemented project management systems using Cobra and Open Plan, and we added wInsight to our suite in 2001. In 2007, we became the exclusive Canadian distributor of these and other Deltek Enterprise Project Management systems and tools.

SOMOS has also been using Microsoft Project since the desktop version first hit the market in 1990. Since that time, we have worked with Microsoft Project and Portfolio Server through to the current 2010 version.  In June of 2010, SOMOS became a Certified Microsoft Partner for Project and Portfolio Management.
